A truly sustainable building must balance environmental, social, and economic performance across its entire lifecycle. For this reason, Cement Europe supports holistic assessments at the building level, using a full life-cycle approach based on scientific data.
Cement Europe is an active participant in CEN/TC 350 “Sustainability of Construction Works”, which develops standards to evaluate sustainability across all three pillars — from building-level assessments down to individual products.
The standard EN 15804 provides product category rules for developing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), ensuring comparable and transparent data for assessing construction works.
Based on these rules, Cement Europe has developed European average EPDs for three cement types, in line with EN 15804 +A2, providing measurable and verifiable input for the environmental assessment of construction projects:
