Every two years, the European Minerals Day engages around 30.000 visitors in one of the 200 open door events hosted at quarry and mining sites, plants or museums in more than 25 European countries. The educational and interactive events help the local communities make the link between the mine next door and the products we use in our daily life. Typical activities include guided visits through active and rehabilitated sites, safety presentations, biodiversity projects, workshops, and entertainment activities for children. The Minerals Days are a great platform to emotionally engage decision makers as well as other key stakeholders in the world of minerals, by giving the opportunity to experience how they are sustainably mined and processed, and learn more about a sector that impacts our daily life and well-being in so many ways.
This year, the EMD will be celebrating its 10th anniversary! Events planned so far include:
- 22 September 2017: European Launch Event in Estonia (kindly hosted by Nordkalk)
- 22-24 September: European Minerals Days
- 10-11 October: EMD workshop and networking event under the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels
- 6-10 November: Brussels event during Raw Materials Week reporting on the Open Days
