The increased use of biomass fuel, and the use of hydrogen and plasma will be needed to reduce CO2 emissions related to fuel. An example of a research project looking into this is currently underway in the UK, which in early 2020 received £6m in funding from the UK government. Research is also underway to look at electrification of the calcination process (CEMZero) and the use of solar energy (SOLCEMENT).
